CURSE o'the MYRE: The Omen of Flodden
In 1513, Scotland suffered one of its darkest hours at the Battle of Flodden, where King James IV and many of the nation’s nobles were killed, leaving the country devastated. Among the fallen were 300 Highland Clansmen from Caithness, led by William Sinclair, 2nd Earl of Caithness. His wife, Margaret Sinclair, became the centre of a legend that would endure for centuries.

Stories of Margaret’s spirit, grieving, searching and haunting still linger around the ruins of Castle Girnigoe and the nearby bogs in the far north Highlands. CURSE o’the MYRE blends history and folklore into a ‘mythstorical’ narrative, exploring themes of loss, memory and the land’s ability to hold human sorrow. The peatbogs, long scarred by extraction and conflict, become a living witness to grief both personal and ecological.

This animated film merges Scottish history with supernatural storytelling, rooted in the mist, myth and melancholy of Caithness.

The expansion of the curse's motivation, punishing both human conflict and environmental destruction, gives the tale a modern, resonant message. This makes the haunting assort not only historical and personal but also a reflection of contemporary anxieties.
