DESCRIPTION
A silver Japanese powder case with an ‘emerald’ or 'radiant’ shape; a form insured by the Art-Deco period of the 1920’s. The case front has an engraving of a Japanese coastal scene featuring fishing huts, boats with Mount Fuji in the background. There are stylised traditional Japanese boat sails engraved to the rear. The front scene stands out even further with a finish of gold pate. The case opens on a hinge to reveal a mirror set interior upper panel and a powder insert to the lower. The case is stamped ‘Silver’ and ‘950’. It is also monogrammed with a Japanese makers mark to the reverse.
‘Art Deco Accessories’
The Art Deco era recalls some of the most smartest and sophisticated design ever seen. This particularly affected ladies fashions, where artisan designers supremely crafted accessories, inserting details echoing the bold geometric forms of the 1920’s & 30’s. This brought a striking touch to all manner material of the day, including chrome, cloth and leather.
CONDITION
In very good condition overall with no major scratches or impacts. The case has a two small pings to the front and one to the rear, but retains all its integrity. There are a couple of small corner peels on the outer silver polish. The gold plate is nice and strong and the case opens and closes smoothly. The interior is in excellent order with all its shine and polish.
